Court orders Morena Baccarin to pay spousal, child support

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2015 | Alimony

Californians who are fans of the television series “Gotham” might be interested to learn that one of the stars of the show, Morena Baccarin, was ordered to pay both child and spousal support to her estranged husband. Reportedly, the 36-year-old Baccarin was ordered to pay $2,693 a month in child support and $20,349 in spousal support. She will be responsible for the spousal support payment either for the rest of his life or until he marries someone else.

The couple shares a 2-year-old son. Originally, Ms. Baccarin’s ex agreed to stay in New York for co-parenting of their son after he filed for divorce from her. He changed his mind and moved to Los Angeles when he learned that she was dating her co-star, Ben McKenzie, and that the two of them are expecting a child of their own. That announcement came three months after the petition for divorce was filed by Mr. Chick, Ms. Baccarin’s husband.

The couple has their next court date in June 2016. Her child support portion will be reduced in the amount of $573, the amount she pays for health insurance. Mr. Chick is a screenwriter and director.

A person who is ordered to pay alimony by the court will be required to make the payments pursuant to the mandated schedule. Such orders are sometimes issued for a specified duration of time, while in others, they are ordered on an indefinite basis. People who believe they will be required to pay alimony may want to get help from a family law attorney. An attorney may be able to negotiate an agreement with the other spouse regarding the alimony duration and amount.
